I conducted lots of research into the conventions of magazine front covers, and incorporated my findings into my own magazine cover for Ultimate Film.
My initial research was into the general conventions of magazines, regardless of whether they were focusing on mainstream films, specialist genres of independent films. Here I was just looking to find out if there were similarities between magazines in terms of design and layout.
Once I had established the design and layout conventions that were consistent, I then set about making sure that I included a masthead, banners, price, date and issue number, a dominant image and coverlines onto my magazine cover.
